Are vegans allowed to watch/play football?
Since footballs are made from cows are vegans allowed to watch NFL games? I figure that by watching these games you are giving money to the NFL which in essence supports the killing of cows since that's what their footballs are made of. Also, what about actually playing football? Unless you use a synthetic this would seem extremely hypocritical to me.
Same thing for basketball, what do you thinK?

Don’t be stupid, playing and watching football is fine. Enjoy playing it before you get to old.
It has a lot more to do with what the individual vegan allows himself or herself to do. While the animal rights cause a noble one, there is only so much one person can do for it. By choosing to not eat murdered animals, vegans are already doing God’s creatures and the earth a huge favor. Watching a sport where the game ball is made from hide doesn’t undo very much of the vegan’s good. True, if all football fans were passionate enough about animal rights to boycott the games, things would change quickly. But the average Joe Sixpack football fan isn’t going to do that. I like football, and I watch. I am far more disgusted by the thought of the massive amounts of m**t consumed by the players, but again, I don’t see my enjoyment of the sport undoing very much of my vegetarian good deeds.
That’s a very good question, one I never would of thought of. I would always use a football or basketball made of something synthetic, but I’m not sure about watching it. I guess you would be supporting it if you watched it since you’re viewing is giving the NFL money and they can use the money to buy a new football (which is supporting it and supporting explotation of the animals skin)…definetly something to think about. Good question.
Good thing I don’t watch football though hehe
Well do you think it would be bad to play with a ball that is covered with an animal’s skin? I say do whatever you feel is best. Who cares what others think?
If you do feel it’s a bad idea then don’t pick touch the thing! If you could care less, then have a great time being active and playing a sport.
One would assume that playing a sport that uses a ball that is covered in an animal’s skin would be supporting the killing of animals. But I doubt most people who play these sports will think about that association.
Instead of worrying if you are making the right decision by playing the sport, you should advocate the usage of synthetic material to cover the sports balls.
Wow.
That’s crazy.
Don’t let this control your life.
I’m sure watching football is fine.
But if it really bothers you, then don’t but…
Wow.
I’m not vegan but vegetarian. I don’t watch sports anyway so yeah. I never really thought about that, thanks for the question. But I’m pretty sure some vegans might feel this way, there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s their choice.
Football is very healthy when enjoyed in moderation with a snack of wholesome freshly peeled carrots.
You forgot baseball where they use leather gloves.. Also wooden bats (hockey sticks too) that used to be trees that birds lived in…
I feel that we shouldn’t. You’re right, you have a point. We would be supporting the producing of the footballs, and the killing of the animals. It wouldn’t be right either to actually play with a football either. It just isn’t right in my own opinion. Hope it helped!
